"The Clipper" 19th Century Sailing Ship - Naive Seascape Folk Art

I know - who really cares about 19th Century painting reproductions? I do. I would paint them all the time, but it's a tiny market. In fact, I willed this one not to sell because I take that as a sign that I should keep it. I know just where I'll hang it.

If any of you have ever tried to paint a tall ship, you know how difficult it was getting the rigging right (or as 'right' as I could manage). There must have been miles of rope on those vessels. I was almost cross-eyed by the end.

I loved painting "Abigail". If there was a true market for these little works, I'd do them all day long, but, sadly, they appeal to only a small group. But I'll keep doing them. While I paint, I feel as if I've moved back into another time, a wandering artist who's stopped by at a big house to offer my services as a portraitist for the family.

More of my Work - a little bit of Americana...or is it Australiana?

I'm on something of a roll. I decided to paint something a little different. Although I've done Colonial pictures before, these are my first in many years, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing them. The fashions were such fun researching!

And, just as I was getting a little frustrated (what else is new?), I sold my "Private Pool" painting, which delights me. When I finished it, I considered keeping it for myself, but I have a number of pictures I've never offered for sale and it's just silly to keep adding to the collection. I will never have enough wall space for all of them, let alone other artists' work that I've collected over the years. So she's sold. Perhaps I'll do a similar one some time.

Anyway, here are my Colonial pictures. I love the woman, but men back then tended to have rather foppish (old, old word, but fitting) hair-dos. It was the era of the male peacock. How times change.



I think I'll do a couple more of these. Stay close by.

Donna Lacey Derstine - Americana Fine Artist

I don't know how I came across Donna Lacey Derstine's lovely paintings - probably delivered to me via Google. However they arrived, I'm proud to show them here.

If I could wave a magic wand, this is how I would paint. As it is, I can't, and must simply sit and gaze in awe at her evocative images. There aren't many artists producing this kind of work, particularly the Colonial-themed folk art, although her impressionist landscapes are equally delightful. She will be passionately collected, mark my words.
